The 2016 model year 1290 Super Duke GT was the show stealer for KTM at the recent EICMA event in Milan. Doubtlessly, the 1290 Super Duke GT is KTM’s new flagship, surpassing last year’s top-notch 1290 Super Adventure R machine.
We took several close-up live photos of the GT and took our time to analyze it as much as we could on the EICMA floor. From a sport tourer’s standpoint, we loved the bike, and learning about the ton of high-end technology KTM put into it made us love it even more.
Still, nothing compares to seeing it in pro-grade, high-resolution photos that are carefully shot and manipulated. Knowing how advanced the bike is made this 1290 Super Duke R look even better.
The Beast in touring guise
Like we were told in an exclusive KTM interview, the 1290 Super Duke GT is basically the Beast in a touring guise. It doesn’t mix the best of both worlds, and therefore, it has no Adventure DNA strands. The performance of the original 1290 Super Duke R was maintained intact, and this makes the GT an adversary to be reckoned with when it comes to carving and riding hard.
Even more, Mattighofen has kept the Beast’s power intact, so the Super Duke GT riders will be able to enjoy the full 170 horsepower of the naked monster. The level of technology embedded in the machine is staggering, and KTM says that even folk like us, who normally oppose using too much electronics on a bike, would love to ride this one.
Lean angle-dependent cornering ABS, traction control, various engine mappings, WP semi-active suspensions, a steering damper, dual ignition, a slipper clutch, a Supermoto ABS mode, tire pressure monitor system, hill hold control, the quick shifter and a 23-liter (6 US gal) tank are only several goodies on the list. Enjoy the photos below while waiting for a test ride with the 1290 Super Duke GT. By: autoevolution
