Even though Pontiac ended its long lasting production, its legacy of great vehicles still remains. Mostly thanks to the iconic Pontiac Firebird muscle car, which became the symbol of a muscle car era that still resonates the world.
It is hard to imagine Pontiac will ever again rise from the ashes, but its best known car could rise like a phoenix which it was anyway. There are a lot of rumors saying it’s quite possible and with a bit of risk by GM we could expect the new 2016 Pontiac Trans Am. However, the Internet is flooded with false news about Trans Am coming back next year. There is no official report by General Motors yet, only unconfirmed rumors.
It would be a fifth generation of Trans Am, since it started its rise back in 1967. Here are the specs of the new 2016 Pontiac Trans Am concept, as a preliminary idea for the release:
2016 Pontiac Trans Am Interior and Exterior
The main change for the 2016 Pontiac Trans Am, compared to the last model, is its front fascia. Rear and front bumpers have been aesthetically improved by incorporating a more befitting rounded shape. The cars LED headlights have been redesigned (following new trends by Pontiac) by increasing the width to position next to the grille. Well concealed and camouflage, the vehicle’s side sills have also been restyled. The quarter panel badge at the front has also been modified. With all these modifications, the 2016 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am would be slightly different from its predecessor.
The front bumper, combined with air breathers on the front arches, enhance stability by pushing air out of the wheel wells, whereas the front apron huge intakes move air through and around the vehicle to produce down force. A lip spoiler at the rear adds an equivalent amount of down force at the vehicle’s back. Inside, the leather bucket-style Sport seats look quite comfortable and, while the rear seats spot a 60/40 split. Characteristic style touches in the 2016 Pontiac Trans Am a leather-covered steering wheel, round instrument swath white graphics as well as door sills.
2016 Pontiac Trans Am Engine
With 580 hp and 556 lb-ft of torque, the 2016 Pontiac Trans Am is the most powerful convertible in Pontiac’s history. Power comes from Pontiac’s supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 also used in Trans Am models (556 hp/551 lb-ft). It would be great to see this turbocharged unit delivered to the 2016 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, but also a smaller turbocharged engine that would compete with 2.7 liter V6 from Ford Mustang would again improve fuel economy and certainly would not lack of power.
2016 Pontiac Trans Am Release date
As said, the new 2016 Pontiac Trans Am is not scheduled for release and there is no such indication whatsoever. We can only hope that this muscle car will outlive the crisis, and possibly hit the road again, this time meeting the tough standards, yet keeping its soul. By: Carsfeatured
