Bentley Will Submit A Convertible Project For Approval Next Summer

Even though the dust has barely settled on Bentley’s luxury SUV and the stir it made at the Frankfurt auto salon, new information regarding the British car maker’s future has emerged.

As it turns out, Bentley has a lot more going on backstage than we previously anticipated , as the luxury car manufacturer is apparently on the offensive. In fact, we just reported that the firm is prepping something special for its centenary in 2019, but it seems that the EXP 10 Speed 6 isn’t it.

According to Automotive news, Bentley CEO – Wolfgang Duerheimer – said that the aforementioned conceptwill be submitted for approval in 2016, after all the extremely positive feedback it received from potential customers.

“We intend to hand it for approval in summertime”, said Duerheimer.

As an SUV, a sports car and a possible supercar clearly weren’t enough to laden the car maker’s schedule, Bentley has something else on its future agenda.  Described as “still on our list” by Duerheimer, the VW Group-owned British car manufacturer will also submit a car based on the Grand Convertible – a drop-top, two-door variant of the the massive Mulsanne.

“We have some important customers waiting for this car and it is very exciting. We are keen to do it”, Duerheimer revealed. Moreover, he characterized the development as “engineering under full steam”.

The future vehicle (if it will make it into production) will most likely continue the Azure’s posh, high-end legacy, rivaling the Phantom Drophead Coupe. Of course, being developed on basically the same platform as the Mulsanne, it will probably be powered by the V8 6.75-litre living fossil – a remarkable powerplant boasting 505 hp and 1,020 Nm (752 lb•ft) of torque thanks to its twin-turbo layout.  By: Carscoops
