We love Brabus here at BOTB. From the crazy C-Class with a 600 bhp V12 to the monster G63 6×6 with 750 bhp, they take Mercedes’ models to the extreme whilst still being relatively subtle (6×6 excepted, obviously). They are at their best when shoehorning a massive engine into an unassuming car, so you can imagine our excitement when we received the press release for their latest offering – the rather long-winded Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Wagon Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo.
What they have done is taken the already-rapid E63S Estate and fitted their new, bored-out version of AMG’s 5.5 litre twin turbo V8 with 579 bhp and 509 lb/ft. The new powerplant now has a volume of 5912 cc (so technically it’s a 5.9 not a 6.0) and produces some exceptional numbers – try 838 bhp, 848 lb/ft of torque, 0 – 62 mph in 3.1 secs and a top speed of 217 mph.
Externally there aren’t that many modifications, bar a new carbon fibre splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser, meaning what you have is; to the majority of people on the street, a Mercedes E-Class Estate that’s faster than a Lamborghini Aventador. We love it. You can also order it with the Mercedes 4Matic 4wd system too, so you’ve actually got a pretty good chance of getting that power to the ground in all conditions.
It’s safe to say that we absolutely love this car – so stealthy and normal looking, but with supercar-baiting performance. It’ll cost supercar levels of money though – around £200,000 – but then you can’t fit 2 mountain bikes and a dog in an Aventador, can you? By: Botb
