Besides all the custom tuned Mustangs Ford also revealed at this year’s SEMA show a new racing version of the pony car. The Mustang GT4 is a turn-key customer racing car, providing customers around the world an affordable racing machine eligible for competition in several motorsports series.

The 2017 Mustang GT4 follows a long line of Ford turn-key racers with a glorious history, cars such as SCCA Shelby GT350R of the 1960s, Trans-Am Boss 302 of the 1970s, the more recent FR500, Boss 302R and 2016 championship-winning Shelby GT350R-C. It is based on the Shelby GT350R-C and features a 5.2-liter V8 and six-speed Holinger paddle-shift transmission which makes it ready, upon some slight mods, for racing in the Grand Sport class of IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, Pirelli World Challenge GTS and European GT4.

The mandatory FIA roll cage, antilock brakes, and Motec dash logger are also present and correct. Ford Also used the opportunity at SEMA to released their new Ford Performance App which enables track-based data-logging, advanced analysis, sharing capability and video capture on any smartphone.
