High demand for the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has prompted General Motors to expand its facilities at Bowling Green, Ky. yet again.
The center will continue to run its Build Your Own Engine program that allows customers to participate in building their vehicle’s LT4. The program now costs $5,000 and includes an engine plaque and photography.
GM says the investment will add at least 36 new employees to the Performance Build Center alone. This is on top of the $439 million GM recently spent to accommodate the plant’s new massive paint shop expected to occupy 450,000 square feet of space. Construction started in the summer and is expected to be completed in 2 years.
Bowling Green is currently home to 905 employees and is GM’s only facility that builds the Corvette. The plant previously received a major upgrade for the arrival of the seven-generation Corvette, including an in-house body shop that produces the aluminum frame. By: motortrend
