Ladies and gents, meet the coolest Land Rover of them all.
Let me get straight to the point here, this car is beyond cool. It’s impossibly cool, in fact. Yes, it’s obvious that its muse was the G63 6×6, but does it matter? Don’t think about it as a copy-cat or as a tribute to the majestic Merc, but as a standalone, serious piece of kit.
Well, probably not this one, since it’s still a prototype, but Kahn doesn’t intend to keep it a one-off. Called the Flying Huntsman 110 6×6 Defender Double Cab, the car was presented at this year’s Land Rover Owners Show in Peterborough and we’re guessing it made quite a stir.
Conceived as a unique, coachbuilt vehicle from the ground up, the truck is based on the on the 110 WB Flying Huntsman 6×6 Defender that premiered at this year’s Geneva auto salon, and we can see it sharing some components with its sibling. Still, Kahn says that the vehicle will be available in both manual 6 speed and automatic 4 or 6 speed variants, with a wide array of engine at its disposal.
Sure, it won’t probably stack up against the almighty Mercedes 6×6, especially if it will be powered by a 2.2-litre engine like this example, but it will have a starting price of “only” £99,875 ($152,000) – significantly lower than the original 6×6 Flying Huntsman and galaxies away from the Merc’s astronomical price tag. Still, its top-of-the-range model will probably include the 6.2-litre GM LS3 V8 with all its 430 horses.
Moreover, there won’t be plenty for everybody, as Kahn wants to keep its production on the down-low with only 20 vehicles manufactured per year. There no denying its fairly “reasonable” price will make it desirable, especially to those who couldn’t get their hands on a G-Class 6×6, and its bold, brutal looks makes it a stunner. Sure, it isn’t the Rolex wristwatch you always wanted, but a Casio still shows you the time accurately. By: CarsCoops
