One of the best parts of writing for a site like 6SpeedOnline is the ability to justify watching clips of awesome vehicles on YouTube. (“I’m not goofing off. I’m working!”)
A great source of automotive footage is Marchettino, who always seems to be around exotics with a video camera in hand. The car porn paparazzo recently uploaded a short piece featuring the Hamann Volcano, a heavily modified version of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. Hamann tweaked its 5.4-liter supercharged V8 to make an earth-shaking 700 horsepower and 612 lb.-ft. of torque, up from 626 and 575, respectively. ECU tuning, custom exhaust manifolds and increased boost combine for a pleasantly guttural sound from the three side pipes.
Visually, the firm wreaked absolute panda-monium. Hamann’s black and white creation is adorned with a substantial carbon fiber front lip, EDITION RACE 21-inch wheels and a massive rear wing, which should keep the car planted to the road at its top speed of 216 mph…and all eyes glued to this rolling exclamation point.
Despite the rumble of its exhaust and its mind-blowing looks, the Hamann Volcano seen in this video fizzles rather than erupts at the 1:26 marker. It’s pulled on to a flatbed wrecker after suffering some sort of mechanical failure. Perhaps its heart gave out because it couldn’t take all of the plastic surgery Hamann performed.
Sadly, we don’t get to hear this hyperbolic custom revving or roaring off into the night. Only this sound comes to mind. By: 6speedonline
