If you’re the wacko racer type guy searching for a coupe off-roader, things won’t get better than Local Motors’ Rally Fighter for now. Italdesign tried something last year with its Giugiaro Parcour, but that sweet thing is nowhere near production. And even if it was, it would still be too luxurious for some serious off-roading.
That cannot be said about the Rally Fighter though. It looks like a stylish coupe, but underneath lies a racing-grade structure and a hardcore off-roading suspension with up to 20 inches of travel.
You can buy one as a complete kit and help build it at Local Motors’ shop or you can get an already built unit for some extra cash. Or, you can check out this offer and find that Jeff Gordon’s former crew chief, Ray Everham, is actually selling his for only $109,000, just 9 grand over the factory price.
But then you should know it has been built for a celebrity and it has only 479 miles (770 km) on the clock. The body is wrapped in a classy looking beige base vinyl while the front end and the rear fenders come in dark brown, making up for a nice classic look.
Powering the beast is a front mid-mounted 376-cui GM LS3 E-Rod V8 making 430 hp and 424 lb-ft (275 Nm) of torque, all sent to the rear axle via a four-speed automatic transmission. This makes the Fighter accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 6 seconds and reach a top speed of 131 mph (210 km/h).
The performance suspension system uses King coil-over shocks with piggyback reservoirs, billet upper and lower front control arms, detachable stabilizer bar and a reverse triangulated four-link rear assembly, all ending with four 17×8 aluminum alloy Mehod Racing Bead Locks rims wrapped in 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires.
Inside you won’t be spoiled with Range Rover luxury, but you still get niceties like sport front leather seats, air conditioning, electric windows and mirrors, infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity and even a rearview camera.
If you’re really interested to buy this stunning machine, you should also know it comes with GM limited warranty paperwork that certifies Ray Evernham’s ownership, as well as all the installation and maintenance paperwork. By: autoevolution
