The 2016 Shelby GT350R Mustang has just been named the Performance Car of the Year by Road & Track magazine!
This year’s eight contenders for the PCOTY crown gathered in Berea, Kentucky driving down through the Daniel Boone National Forest on its way to Cookeville, Tennessee and finally to NCM Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
After the contenders — the 2015 Bentley Continental GT3-R, 2016 Cadillac ATS-V coupe, 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, 2016 Dodge Viper ACR, 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB, 2016 Mercedes AMG GT S, and 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 — were pushed to the limit on the narrow twisty roads around NCM Motorsports Park, the Shelby GT350R was declared the winner by a landslide.
Simply put, Road & Track notes that the GT350R has a “single-minded focus on high-speed balance and usable performance” with a “magical V-8 that brings the caviar thrills of 8250-rpm performance to a beer-and-burgers demographic.”
Combined with the best attributes of each of its competitors, the GT350R is said to have “the Bentley’s on-road poise, the Cadillac’s vivacious chassis, the Merc’s bluff-nosed retro charm, the Cayman’s accessible limits, the Ferrari’s auditory drama, the Corvette’s wide-hipped machismo, and the Viper’s sense of purpose…” By: mustang6g
