Toyota Previews MX-5 Rival With S-FR Concept In Tokyo

Toyota revealed some big news with the S-FR Concept, a compact RWD 2+2 coupe designed simply for driving thrills.

Measuring 3,990mm in length, 1,695mm in width and 1,320mm in height the S-FR Concept is about the same size as the Mazda MX-5 and according to Toyota it “emphasizes responsiveness, and aims to make a whole new generation fall in love with driving.”  TOYOTA_S-FR_011

Using the same recipe as with the GT86, the S-FR Concept is a lightweight sports car with the engine mounted behind the front axle in true front-mid fashion for optimal weight distribution.

Mated to a manual gearbox and wearing independent suspension all around, the S-FR Concept wants to lure the die-hard fans who love driving and customizing their cars.

“Benefiting from the unique advantages of a lightweight sports car, the concept offers smooth, responsive and direct handling that gives a real sense of communication between car and driver”, claims Toyota in its press release.

The interior follows the simple lines of the exterior and looks almost finished, which is usually a sign of how close the concept it really is to production. There are no infotainment screens in there and other gadgets, probably because Toyota wants to focus on the fun-to-drive character of the S-FR Concept.

Toyota didn’t share so far any details concerning the powertrain of the S-FR Concept which will make its global premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show. Stay tuned for more info. By: Carscoops
