You Can Buy The Heart Of The Corvette Z06 For Less Than $16,000

Oh man, imagine the possibilities.

It should really come as no surprise that it’s now on sale, as we first saw with that one-off 1970 Camaro restomod at SEMA. You could go and spend at least $80,000 for a brand new Chevrolet Corvette Z06, or instead pay about $16,000 for its best feature.

According to Chevy, you can now buy the Z06’s LT4 supercharged 6.2-liter V8 for an MSRP of $15,625. The LT4 crate engine just so happens to power the most powerful production car Chevy has ever made. Does this mean anyone can build their very own supercar? The engine’s specs are definitely impressive.

It leverages technologies first shown on the 2014 Corvette Stingray’s LT1 small block V8, such as Direct Injection and continuously Variable Valve Timing, and then adds a healthy dose of supercharging technologies established with the C6 ZR1’s LS9 V8.

That all means you can power your project car with a 650 hp, 650 lb-ft of torque monster for a damn decent price. Then again, we wonder if the LT4 could be more trouble than it’s worth. Remember those instances when a few Z06 owners experienced outright engine failure?

Have GM engineers figured out the problem and remedied a solution? If Chevy is willing to sell the engine alone, then it’s a fair assumption issues have been worked out. By: Carbuzz
